Firth and Wagner do not spell out their agenda for SLA research. They "suggest" that researchers must come up with more balanced theories; theories that take into account both the "social and cognitive dimensions of S/FL use and acquisition" however, they don't go into great detail on how to achieve such results. Their views are not congruent with prevailing interactionist perspectives in SLA because they tend to focus more on the great influence the social environment has on language learning.
