I would like to mention that in order to define a morpheme, we just have to delete the word "meaningful," from the definition you give, Donna. You also give very good examples such as the "berries" and the "mit" ones.I remember that this was an interesting topic while taking the Language and Linguistics class. The definition of Morpheme then would be like this: "A morpheme is the smallest unit in a language, and they can have variant forms (allomorphs)." I hope this helps. Luis
