Hi, everyone. This is just part of the conversation I had with Dr. Valentin Soto. (Expert in linguistics) Let me first tell you that the term CORE in Spanish is a different one, linguists use the term Unidad Nuclear(Nuclear Unit) which is the same as CORE in English. And the term PERIPHERY is basically the same, they use Perifrasis. I am just going to give you some examples of Core and Periphrasis in Spanish, because he gave me very long and difficult explanations. When talking about the future: Core: Voy a ir (I am going to go) Vengo el proximo mes (I come next month)This is in between Core and periphery. Pheriphery: Ire (I'll go) He also mentioned that periphery is divided in two: -Solubles (you can change the position of some words) -No solubles (words have a fixed order and you cannot change it) Examples: -Solubles: Me gusta hablar con ella. Detesto verla en la cantina. In this case, we know that the person we are talking about is a "she" since we mention her at the very end of the sentece(ella); whereas in the second sentence we know that this person is a "she" since the pronoun "la" is attached to the main verb. -No solubles One says: "Tengo que ir,", but not:"tengo que vayas." You can also say: "detesto verla en la cantina," but not: "La detesto ver." (I hate seeing her) He gave me some more examples but as I said they are more complicated if you are not familiar with the Spanish grammar.Even for me was difficult to understand some of these explanations.
