Hi, Donna S. I think you mentioned a key word when you were telling us your learning experience: "Motivation." As I can recall, there are two types of motivation: Extrinsic and Intrinsic. Yours, of course was INTRINSIC. According to Krashen, in his Natural Approach the teacher plays a very important role when talking about the Input Hypothesis,he(the teacher) has to create the "perfect learning environment," so the affective filter remains very low. As you mentioned, "you agree up-to certain extent," so do I. I think this theory needs to consider some other very important aspects, such as, the learner's motivation, and the learner's learning startegies, among some others. What I mean by all this is that the teacher is not the only responsible in the teaching-learning process. As an example of this, let me tell you a brief story. Last semester, I was invited to teach a Spanish II class, here at MSU. The students I had, believe me, were terrible They did not have any kind of motivation, they were just there shouting, chatting, and so on. I talked to some of them several times in private, I tried to be nice, I tried to create the perfect learning environment. And you know something? They laughed at me. It was a nightmare. In conclusion, this theory needs to consider other important factors.
Luis.
