Hello to everyone It was a pleasure to see that some classmates had already posted something on this topic. This is only to confirm the enthusiastic nature of students in this class. In fact Ken mentionned something that i thought was very important as far as the nature of this course was concerned (Theories of sla). This is concerning Dr. Sotillo's teaching, yes at times i thought she was teaching at L+1 level, I would think this is what happens when somebody (teacher) masters his or her field of expertise (there is just continuous flow of facts and knowledge). Anyway i think this gave me the opportunity to read the material many more times when i got back home. I did enjoy working with everybody in the class, it was always a conduisive atmosphere, i did not have any bad experience as far as student-student or teacher-student relationship was concerned. Ken and Luis have already mentionned everythingg that i can say about our professor, but i would like to add that she is one of those who are really concerned about the students. When i look at my learning experiences from the standpoint of these two contexts (as part of a group and as an individual learner), I reach at the conclusion that both of these learning methods have enabled me to attain a good level of understanding. I think i had the same experiences doing group work in English as in French. Group work has always been part of my learning style since coming from a francophone learning background, I had a taste of it presenting 'expose in group' which are one of the characteristics of French education (in my country). During the preparation of our presentation (Luis and myself), i realized that each of us was a compliment of the other. We had an outline that we followed and each time we met, we corrected our mistakes as well as clarified some obscure points and by so doing new ideas were gotten. Group work has been very essential to me, it had served as a motivational force for studying. I always did a lot of reaserch before meeting with my partners because i was afraid of saying something wrong infront of the others. During this i got new ideas, new vocabulary like (working in tandem) thus expanding my knowledge of L2. I would like to say that Donna D. who is a native speaker helped me much in correcting some of my senrences. Though group work is very important, i would like to stress the fact that individualistic learning is at the base of my understanding of anything. I do really much learn by myself and i think this is when i feel very confident though i had been proven wrong at times. When i work individually, i concentrate on the topic and i remain focus untill i finish what i had to do. To conclude, i would say that both learning styles are viable to me if i have to succeed in education. Finally, i would like to thank all those with whom i worked, this gave me the opportunity to know you better and to make new friends.
