I lifeguarded over the summer with a girl named Stacey who was a feminist. One of our first conversations she had asked me if I was a feminist, and I said, "I think so", not really knowing what a feminist is. Spending almost every day over the summer with her I became intrested in learning about women's actual place in society. Earlier in the summer Stacey had asked me if I thought women and men were equal, and I said, "yeah kinda." Then I got about a half hour lectue on abortion and how women are portrayed in the media.
So with this experience I wanted to learn more about women and feminist issues. Thats when I decided to take this class Womens Worlds. I expect to learn women's roles around the world, and what it means to be women.
I would best describe myself as an outgoing young women who is very open minded to meeting new people and learning new ideas. Although I may be outgoing it is hard for me to show my true feelings. But I do get along great with others.
I am intrested in a couple of the suggestions you have listed, but I am most intrested in the topic on gender stereotypes reinforced by the advertising industry. i am a sales representitive for Orlane cosmetics, so I live and bread women's desire to be young and beatiful with this company. Therefore I would like to better my understanding how gender stereotypes are reinforced by the media and corporate sponsors such as Orlane.
