Throughout my life I have always been the one to get offended by racial jokes whether or not it directly addressed where I have come from. From this I was able to identify somewhat with Anzaldua's description of what the Borders in life are. I found it interesting the way she had two uses for the meaning of Borders, one being the actual Border set by geographic land ownership, and the other being the Borders defined by race, class, and gender. It is discouraging that the latter Border does exist, that despite all the things society has been through, there are still many drastic differences that exist from many different types of people. I do like her writing style, but I feel as if there is a Border that exists against me while reading this, as I do not speak Spanish. I feel as though I am losing something from this book because I am unable to understand the Spanish in it. ---Kristen
