I was raised a Roman Catholic, and was forced to go to church faithfully every Sunday. I think that until the time I was thirteen I had only missed Sunday mass three or four times due to illness. Now I have my own reservations with the Catholic faith. I recognize the good that Catholic organizations do around the world, and do believe that in many instances, much good is done. After having just read this article (I had not recieved it before now), I found it surprising to hear that this was in the U.S. When I hear of things like this happening, I forget that the U.S. is not excluded from these occurances. I grew up in the Tri-State area, and always had the best resources within an hour drive. While I can appreciate what the Catholic hospitals are attempting to do, I do not find it fair to deny women of their legal rights. Whether or not the Catholic church condones abortion, it is the woman's decision. I find it upsetting that they enforce their beliefs on these women. I suppose it is to be expected, the Catholic Church is known to be outspoken and preachy. I have my beliefs, and a strong sense of what I think they are. It is not necessary for me to share them, or to try to make anyone else follow my beliefs. I think that it is unfair for the Catholic hospitals to do this to these women, especially when there is virtually no access to another, non-Catholic, hospital.
