The Joseph and Elda Coccia Institute for the Italian Experience in America
Offers the Following
Scholarships and Awards in 2009

The Coccia Foundation Saddlebrook Unico Awards for Excellence in
Italian Language & Culture

The Joseph and Elda Coccia Foundation, in conjunction with The Saddle Brook Chapter of UNICO and the Department of Spanish and Italian at Montclair State University, offers four awards of $250 for excellence in Italian language or Italian Studies.

  • Priority given to students who demonstrate a strong interest in Italian culture
  • Students of Italian language and/or Italian Studies
  • MSU Amici Club membership is preferred, but not required.


The Maria Manzetti Memorial Scholarship

Circolo degli Amici (The Coccia Foundation) offers two $1000 awards to students enrolling or enrolled in the MSU Italian Teacher Certification Program with the intention to teach Italian.
  • Required 3.5 GPA in Italian language courses (3.5 Cumulative GPA preferred). 
  • MSU Amici Club membership is preferred, but not required.

Coccia Foundation Summer Study Abroad Awards

The Joseph and Elda Coccia Foundation, in conjunction with the Department of Spanish and Italian at Montclair State University, offers one $2000 or two $1000 awards to students participating in Montclair State University’s Montclair in Florence Study Abroad Program.

 

 

 

The Passaic Valley Unico Italian Studies Award

The Passaic Valley Chapter of UNICO, in conjunction with the Department of Spanish and Italian at Montclair State University, offers a $1000 award to a student for high achievement in Italian or who is attending the Montclair in Florence Program in the Summer of 2010.

  • The recipient should submit an academic transcript and an essay stating how the Award will be used, and attend an awards ceremony. Residence in the Clifton, Little Falls, or Totowa, NJ area is preferred, but not required.

The District 7 Unico Italian Achievement and
Study-Abroad Award

The District 7 Chapter of UNICO, in conjunction with the Department of Spanish and Italian at Montclair State University, offers a $1000 award or two $500 awards to a student (senior is preferred) who demonstrates high achievement in Italian or who will attend the Montclair in Florence Program in the Summer of 2010.

The International Italian Student Internships for Montclair in Florence

The Italian Program at Montclair State University is pleased to announce two $1000 International Italian Student Internships for students attending the Montclair in Florence Program in the Summer of 2010.

  • The recipient will be a highly proficient and motivated Italian student attending the Montclair in Florence Program in Florence, Italy, in the Summer of 2010. S/he will assist the Director of the Program for ten hours a week developing conversational materials and (on-line) resources for use in Italian courses and should possess strong, technology skills.
  • Priority given to Italian Majors, Minors, and Teaching Certification candidates (third- and fourth-year students).

The Montclair State University Italian Program
Merit Awards for Excellence in Italian and Study Abroad

The Montclair State University Italian Program offers four Merit Awards:

• Two $1000 and two $500 Merit Awards to students who demonstrate excellence in Italian and who will attend the Montclair in Florence Program in the Summer of 2010. Students at all levels of Italian study are eligible to apply.

** Additional scholarships for students attending the 2010 Montclair in Florence Program may become available and will be announced immediately.
  • Applicants for all scholarships and awards should use Italian Scholarship Application Form at: http://chss2.montclair.edu/spanish-italian/italscholappform.pdf, emphasizing their achievements and activities as they relate to Italian language and culture and, if applicable, the particular award, in the 500-word essay. Applicants should also submit a résumé.
  • Application deadline: Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 by 9 a.m. Submit to:

    * Note: The Italian Scholarship Selection Committee, which consists of the Italian faculty, will establish the criteria for awards, review applications, and select recipients. Awards will be presented at an Award Ceremony sponsored by Montclair State University and attended by sponsors (Monday, April 26, 2010, 1-2 pm). In some cases, recipients will also attend an Award Ceremony sponsored by the donating UNICO chapter.
