Montclair State University
Department of Spanish and Italian
UNDERGRADUATE MAJOR PROGRAM IN SPANISH

Language requirements and electives prepare our majors for professional careers and broaden their intellectual horizons by developing their analytical and critical abilities. The Spanish curriculum embraces both Spain and Spanish America. Recognizing that students at Montclair State University have diverse career goals as well as academic interests, the curriculum of the Spanish Department is tailored to meet three distinct needs:

1. Those of students interested in a traditional liberal arts program which is heavily oriented toward literature.

2. Those of students interested in teaching Spanish on the secondary school level.

3. Those of students desirous of pursuing careers where a knowledge of translation skills is valued.

While the core program of requirements is similar for these three areas, the electives vary considerably according to the focus of each field of study.
