Montclair State University
Department of Spanish and Italian
MASTER OF ARTS

The Graduate Program in Spanish is designed to offer students with B.A. degrees the opportunity to obtain a more advanced degree of knowledge of the Spanish culture through a study of the literature, language and literary theories of the Hispanic world.

The courses in the M.A. program are organized into specific chronological periods and students select at least one from among the different areas in Latin American and Spanish literature. Special topics classes are also offered as electives. Students choose as one of their required courses either History of the Language or Literary Theory. Our comprehensive examination is designed to cover all periods in each area of specialization, which further motivates the student to adopt and follow a well-rounded study program. Students may elect to write a thesis instead of taking the comprehensive exam.
