Guaranteed Admission Program

For Jurisprudence majors & Pre Law minors

New York Law School (NYLS) and Montclair State University (MSU) have a cooperative program that guarantees admission to NYLS for selected MSU students completing the major in Jurisprudence or the minor in Pre Law.  The program began during the 2007-08 academic year with the first MSU student enrolling at NYLS in Fall 2008.  Admission through this program does not require the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).

Eligibility

To be considered for admission to NYLS through this program, the MSU student must:

  • Have a declared major in Jurisprudence or declared minor in Pre Law;
  • Have an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher;
  • Have completed course work demonstrating extensive and intensive research and course work requiring advanced writing, as determined by the MSU pre-law advisor.

Students who transferred into MSU are eligible for consideration if they have completed at least 60 credits at MSU with an MSU GPA of 3.50 or higher and an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.40 or higher.

All applicants through this program must be recommended by the MSU pre-law advisor.

Application Process

To apply for consideration under this program, the MSU student must:

  • Complete the New York Law School paper application (the application fee is waived);
  • Submit the NYLS application materials to the MSU pre-law advisor;
  • Request a recommendation for admission to this program by the MSU pre-law advisor.

The LSAT and the LSDAS are not required for consideration under this program.  Those who have taken the LSAT might not be eligible for admission through this program, therefore interested students are advised to meet with the MSU pre-law advisor before taking the LSAT or registering for LSDAS.  Consideration for a merit scholarship requires an LSAT score, however students are advised to discuss the likelihood of a scholarship with the MSU pre-law advisor before taking the LSAT.

Upon receipt of the application materials and recommendation by the MSU pre-law advisor, NYLS will notify the student of her or his admission within two weeks.

Students not applying through this program or not recommended to this program by the MSU pre-law advisor may seek admission to NYLS through the traditional admission process.
